My name is Shayne but my friends call me SUGA. I am Detroit native living the California dream. In September of 2015, I was diagnosed with Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes the tissues and organs to attack themselves; or in my case, causes the skin to deteriorate and promote severe hair loss. Since my diagnosis I have been doing my best to stay as heathy as possible in order to protect the body that I have. Let’s just say, the struggle has been real! One of the most common active symptoms of Lupus is inflammation. Although there are several medications in place to help manage this symptom, I alternatively adapted a vegan diet to combat this issue. This alteration in my diet has done wonders for my health thus far but I am still not where I would like to be. While searching for more ways to improve my health I discovered that a majority of the foods we eat have inflammatory proprieties. Which means that even though I’ve established a vegan diet, there are foods that I still consume that may be making my Lupus worse. Consequently I thought, what if I just eliminate the foods in my diet that are causing this inflammation. Thus, I created this platform as a place for me to document my transition from a vegan to an anti-inflammatory diet. Here you will find recipes, health updates and even products that are assisting with me with healing my body naturally from the inside out. So welcome friends, as I invite you to take this journey with me where we discover if food is really is medicine.
